On-line or On campus, Community College or 4 year degree school
The answer is simple- it's not necessarily either or. Today's college experience can start with sampling a course on line, or a hybrid course ( some time on campus, some time on line) . A degree can begin at a community college and continue to a four year college. The community college route usually means that you can avoid the SATs. You will take placement tests but these are usually free and less stressful than the SAT or ACT. Visit the campus of every school you are considering. You can schedule a visit on line or go to an open house. The choice you make should be the one that is a good fit for your personality, your academic goals, your pocket book and the locale you want to call home for the next two to four years.
